The concrete objectives of a project on biopesticides that focus on VET students, educators and farmers include:
- To increase awareness and knowledge about biopesticides among VET students, educators, and farmers, including their benefits, limitations, and safe use.
- To provide training and capacity building to VET students and educators on the application of biopesticides, enabling them to become skilled professionals in the field of biopesticides.
- To support farmers in adopting biopesticides as an alternative to conventional pesticides, reducing the environmental impact of agricultural practices and improving the health and safety of farmers and consumers.
- To provide high-quality technical training to VET students making VET education more attractive for them and able to contribute to their personal and professional development.
These objectives are linked to priorities we chose in the following way:
- Sustainable agriculture: The project aims to promote the use of biopesticides, which are considered a more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional pesticides, reducing the negative impact of agriculture on the environment.
- Capacity building and education: The project seeks to provide training and education to VET students and educators, increasing their knowledge and skills in the field of biopesticides, and supporting the development of a skilled workforce.
As the Consortium Leader and Project Coordinator for the BioPestGuardians initiative (Pest Biological Control Agents: The fail-safe revolution in modern agriculture in Europe), InnoTomia proudly spearheaded the strategic direction, management, and execution of this transnational project across Greece, Spain, and North Macedonia.
In this flagship role, we blended our signature high-tech VET educational capabilities with a specialized network of experts from the agricultural sector, positioning InnoTomia as a true pioneer of sustainable Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methodologies in Greece.
Our core contributions and leadership achievements include:
- Consortium Coordination & Strategic Vision: As the leading partner, Innotomia successfully managed the collaboration between European partners, ensuring all milestones were met on time and aligning the project outputs with the highest standards of the European Commission's Erasmus+ program.
- Pioneering High-Tech VET Resources: We brought our advanced digital learning expertise to the forefront by developing the BioPestGuardians Interactive E-Learning Platform and producing the professional 5-part Educational Video Masterclass Series. These tools successfully bridge the gap between complex laboratory science and practical, everyday field applications.
- Innovative Methodology for Greek Agriculture: Collaborating closely with top-tier agronomists and agricultural scientists, InnoTomia introduced an innovative, field-tested educational methodology to the Greek VET sector. This framework teaches farmers and trainee-educators how to safely replace conventional chemical pesticides with cutting-edge biological control agents (microbial, plant-based, and biochemical).
- Active Stakeholder Engagement: Leveraging our deep-rooted connections in the regional and national agricultural sectors, we facilitated direct, high-value interactions between local organic farmers, agricultural cooperatives, VET institutions, and policymakers through field visits and hands-on workshops in the Achaia region.
From Cooperation to Innovation: The "Eco-Agro Digital Cluster"
The widespread success and dense stakeholder interactions generated by BioPestGuardians directly triggered the launch of an exciting spin-off initiative: The Eco-Agro Digital Cluster.
Born out of the synergies created during our local field pilots, this spin-off acts as a dedicated regional network connecting tech developers with organic producers. It focuses on implementing real-time, sensor-driven digital diagnostics to help local farmers track pest behaviors and time their biopesticide applications perfectly. This transition from an educational framework into a live, tech-driven agricultural network stands as a primary indicator of the long-term sustainability and impact of Innotomia's project leadership.
